Wye is a simple train schedule app for Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART). It is intentionally built to be an app that you don’t interact with much — just a slightly more readable paper train schedule, on your phone. Future features must require less of the user’s attention.

Hello (Transit) World

Wye is also the first app that I designed and developed entirely by myself, written in Swift. In building the app I learned how to do everything from simple schedule lookups to Auto Layout* and animations. I phoned a friend a couple times.

* Surprisingly, having studied mechanical engineering — specifically GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) — helped a lot to understand Auto Layout and how to fully define constraints. Though there’s always a little black magic involved.
